Top Natural Wood Flooring Patterns

Wood floors are one of the sought after surfaces in any house. And when it comes to natural wood flooring, they are considered as solid, practical and perfectly fit in the modern and traditional settings. However, picking the right wood floor pattern that fits your vision is important to ensure a quality product. You may find dozens of natural wood flooring pattern, each creating unique and lush appeal in any space.

Choose the right wood flooring pattern for your home:
Herringbone
This is one of the historically popular patterns that have proven to be timeless from fashion to flooring. They have geometrical design and can lend a large room elegance and aesthetic appeal. The symmetry and the visual beauty of this exceptional pattern make it a highly sought after natural wood flooring pattern for any space looking for grand treatment.

Parquet
Parquet flooring are made out of several pieces of wood, intertwining together to create a pattern. The composition is usually groove and tongue pieces joined together. Interestingly, the possibilities with Parquet pattern are endless. You may find from simple to elaborate design including basket, chevron and brick style. Sometimes the combination of geometric shapes is used to either make an abstract art or a creative theme.

Picture frame
This design pattern is specifically used to highlight certain areas of a home. These may include the frame around the dining table area, Kitchen Island or a fireplace frame. Just like the Parquet and the Herringbone pattern, it needs final touch of a sanding machine and should never be installed using prefinished flooring.

Random width
Using random floor design pattern is intentional. The pattern commonly uses planks of different widths. The sizes of the pattern are determined by the flooring specialist and are repeated throughout the full flooring surface. Random wood flooring pattern is ideal for smaller spaces as it creates the impression of a bigger room. However, to achieve the desired effect, the floor should be installed parallel to the highest wall in the room.

Diagonal
Perfect for small rooms, in diagonal pattern, the planks should be installed parallel to each other at a 45 degree to make a room look bigger because human eyes are automatically drawn to the corners of the room and rarely to the walls. Because of the extra number of cuts required to install such a pattern, diagonal wood flooring patterns are more labor intensive.

Two important considerations while using natural wood flooring pattern:
Plank orientation
Whether you position the planks in a perpendicular or parallel to a wall, it will always help in defining the look and feel of the entire room.

Plank length
You may try different plank lengths to achieve unique looks. It could be flooring with planks of the same length or planks with different lengths placed randomly.
Besides these, you may also opt for basket weaves, the Dutch pattern or the wicket sometimes referred as wicket layout. Most importantly, any of these natural wood flooring patterns should be installed by a specialist to ensure a quality experience.
